the story :
This is the second batch of my collaboration series with Melly Knits!
Last Autumn Melissa (Melly Knits) and I went in together on several fleeces from Haunui Wool in New Zealand. This wool captured both of our hearts and imaginations with its long staple length, luxurious softness, and incredible bounce.
We are some of the first to ever bring raw Haunui into North America, it is such an honour.
Melissa, as some of you may already know, scours, picks, and cards raw fleeces into beautiful batts in her home studio. I’m a huge fan of her work and her as a person, she is not only exceptionally talented, but she is also exceptionally funny and kind.
We just so happen to live only about 45 minutes away from one another.
Since working with some of her batts, I knew I wanted to try putting my own spin on her hand processed wools.
Hand processed fibre feels so alive to me, not only does it create a very lofty yarn, there is something about prepping wool this way that makes me feel the ease and calm that I felt while sitting in a pasture watching the sheep, my knitting and tea close at hand.
I’ve blended in hand dyed Polwarth (by Lynne Anderson - West Coast Colour) as I find this breed compliments Haunui as they share a similar hand and both bloom beautifully when washed.
To add a little more dimension there are bits of hand dyed silk laps and noil in the blend as well, these have more texture than typical silks but it creates such a lovely pop of shine and colour in the yarn.
All packaging is compostable or recyclable using post consumer waste paper products.
